Can you tell a little about your first VR experience?
My first VR experience was being in a different social app making friends. Someone had told me about Altspace so I downloaded it, saw potential in it immediately and started making worlds to do meditations. As I started exploring events I noticed EvolVR was already doing meditations and someone had suggested I speak to Jeremy. After our meeting I was hooked. I enjoyed EvolVR meditations, I enjoyed the community I was getting involved with and I enjoyed leading meditations.
What makes VR meditation different from traditional meditation?
I think it’s easier for people to throw on a headset or go on the computer to meditate especially with COVID. They can be guided from the comfort of their own homes and then go about the rest of their days.
What motivates you to lead sessions with EvolVR?
I really enjoy meditating, I enjoy teaching and guiding people through their practice. I love the people I’ve met, and the people I continue to meet.
How would you describe the session you lead?
I do a lot of body scans and guided imagery. I try to have people do a self check of their emotions and try to work with them through out.
What is your hope for the future of VR meditation?
I just hope to grow my practice in VR. Help grow with EvolVR and just continue down this path.
What’s your favourite thing to do in VR, besides meditate or do yoga?
I enjoy playing games with the friends I’ve met I also enjoy hosting the other events I do.
Does your avatar look like you?
I tried to make it look like me lol. It’s the best I can do.
Do you have one piece of advice for someone new to meditation?
Come check it out. See what we are about. Take a moment, allow yourself the time to stop and breath. You may be surprised with the results.
Where can we find more of your work and offerings?
I host meditation every Saturday at 5pm ET. I also do ‘Are you smarter than an avatar’ and ‘Avatar Squares’ Wednesday nights at 8pm ET. Mondays you can find me on the Think Tank at 6pm ET which I’m trying to have people mindfully listen to others and then respond respectfully regardless of their views on the topic. I also host the dating game Saturdays and do some quiz nights at club rendezvous and graffiti club. All of my events can be found right online.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Buying this Oculus was purely by accident. I bought one during COVID during a time that was proving to be very difficult and isolating. I am so glad I bought one and got into VR I’ve met so many amazing people, hosted and been part of events and I really feel like I’ve made a huge community of friends.
